Introduced in 1987, Air Max technology hasn’t aged a bit. The Beaverton firm made sure that the air bubble followed the evolution it deserved by improving it in quality and size. From a simple unit in the heel on the Air Max 1 to completely covering the sole with the VaporMax, Tinker Hatfield’s idea has become an essential signature of the brand at the Swoosh. To mark the evolution of models that have benefited from visible air, the Oregon firm offers us the VaporMax EVO made of inserts paying homage to the various variations of Air Max. Available in two colors, including an exclusively feminine one, we present them to you here.
The upper of the Nike W VaporMax EVO NRG White Black sits on an air unit that acts as a sole, translucent and reinforced by three pieces in the lagoon color. Combining mesh, leather and TPU, the upper is not lacking in inspiration as it contains nods to the most legendary Air Max models. While the yellow Swoosh is taken from the Classic BW, it overlays the side designs of the 1999 Nike Air Tuned Max. The rest of the upper takes over the construction of the Air Max 96 in black and white. The sole is topped by a white reinforcement showing the infrared of the legendary Air Max 90. The lagoon-colored sockliner is inspired by the original color of the Air Max 2 Light from 1994.
The other color, called Black Hyper Cobalt, plays the dark color card. While the upper and sole are mostly black, blue and yellow accents enhance the design. The black Swoosh is edged in yellow, which can be found on the outsole or on the heel on the Nike Air logo, inspired by the Air Max 93. Electric blue dresses the side waves taken from the Tuned Max 99 and brings the touch color that this VaporMax EVO needs. It is found in small touches on the top of the sole or the zipper at the heel.
